The Holidays are upon us and many of you were interested in joining me in one of my upcoming Tamale Making Classes. So here are the details! Can't wait to get cooking!

 

This 2.5 hour class will include:

  • Showing you how to make 3 types of tamales: Mazatlan Style Pork Tamales, Sweet Corn Tamales, and Rajas con Queso (Cheese and Chile).
  • You will receive 6 tamales to take home with you. (2 of each)
  • Photo and Book Signing Opportunity. (Books will be available for sale)

Important Notes:

  • Classes are limited to max of 25 people. So please book quickly.
  • Location will be emailed to attendees day before event.
  • Please bring closed-toe non-slip shoes as you will be in a commercial kitchen environment.

The 2016 festival — which marks People en Español’s 20th anniversary, as well as its fifth year since the actual festival first began — will feature a range of events, including musical performances, panel discussions, and celebrity meet-and-greets before closing out Hispanic Heritage Month on Oct 15-16 in New York City. The Last Bookstore is California’s largest used and new book and record store. Currently in their third incarnation, they began in 2005 in a downtown Los Angeles loft.

That’s when owner Josh Spencer took his decade of experience selling everything from cars to clothes online and focused instead on his first love: books. During the revitalization of downtown LA, they grew quickly to their current 22,000 sq. ft. space in the Spring Arts Tower at 5th & Spring.

Join Chef Claudia and The San Diego Reader in their search to find the best taco at Tacotopia at the Track on Saturday August 13, 2016 at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Try signature tacos from more than 40 of the best restaurants and food trucks from San Diego, TJ and LA as they compete for your vote for 'Best Taco'. Each attendee will be given a token to place in the voting box of their favorite vendor. The vendor with the most votes wins, and winners will be announced live in the Winners Circle! While you eat your weight in tacos, you can also enjoy live music and the excitement of the races. The event will take place from 1pm-4pm, the party will be happening, rain or shine.

Tickets will include admission to the races, to the Family Weekends events, and the 311 and Matisyahu concert on August 13th, 2016. CONCERT ADMISSION IS FOR 18+ ONLY!

Please bring a hard copy of your Tacotopia at the Track ticket to The Reader booth at will-call. Will-Call will be near the Run Admission Gates (look for signage), in order to receive your wristband and an entry ticket to the races. 

Admission for this event is open to all ages. No pets allowed. Children 2 and under get in for free, and Children's Tickets are available for those ages 3-10. Children's Ticket holders must be accompanied by an adult.

Now in its seventh year, Berry Good Night celebrates local growers, ranchers, and producers, along with championing the ideology of sustainable food. Passionate chefs from San Diego and Baja join together to create dishes using whole animals purchased from local ranchers and produce from local growers, paired with local wines, beers and spirits, uniting kindred spirits—artisans, food activists, farmers, ranchers, winemakers, brewers, writers, chefs, restaurateurs and dedicated locavores—for an evening of conscious conversation over a sensory sustainable feast.

New this year, the dinner (historically a seated dinner where guests changed seats between courses) will be earlier in the day (3-8pm) and stations only—headed by a single chef and highlighting a single seasonal ingredient, e.g., carrot or rabbit—so that more interaction between guests can occur, the reason the dinner was conceived to begin with….

All proceeds raised at this event will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its on-going mission to cure cystic fibrosis and provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives. The CFF funds more innovative, groundbreaking CF research than any other organization in the world and takes great pride in being one of the most effective non-profits of its kind.

The Hotel del Coronado’s expansive Windsor Lawn will provide the setting for this unforgettable gourmet gathering, where 30 of the best chefs from San Diego and Mexico will present signature hors d’oeuvres or desserts at individual stations. Judged by our ever-growing Culinary Council that includes such names as Andre Zotoff, Brian Malarkey, Claudia Sandoval, Jack Ford, Michele Parente, Sam The Cooking Guy, Serge Dedina, Tommy Gomes, Troy Johnson, Jason Hotchkiss, Michelle Lerach, Javier Plascencia and Lead Judge Richard Sandoval, chefs will also present their best bites with the goal of winning the Chef Flor Franco Award for Culinary Excellence, in addition to some incredible prizes, detailed below.

We are, once again, thrilled to announce our annual spring release party. This dinner is to highlight our newest vintage in bottle paired with amazing culinary talent. We are honored to host Season Six Master Chef winner, Chef Claudia Sandoval, Season one Mexico Top Chef contestant and cook book author, Chef Pia Quintana, Top Chef guest judge and owner of The Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende, Chef Donnie Masterton, and last but not least, our hometown favorite, Michelin Star Chef and owner of Deckman's en el Mogor, Chef Drew Deckman.

Starting with cocktail hour, you will have an opportunity to meet with all of the chefs and try and sampling of their cuisine. We will then welcome you to our grand table, set amongst the vines, in which each chef will take over a course and collaborate a menu highlighting our new releases.

Following this special meal, you will have the opportunity head to the dance floor and cigar lounge, soaking up the valle stars. A tasting counter will be set up, in which you will have exclusive specials on these new wines to take with you.
